Leadership requires experience and a plan. With my track record as a councillor, years of participation in public life and a strong, actionable plan I'll bring people together, grow and attract business and build our community.
I will increase the resources and investment in our economic development capacity. We need to be a serious player in our targeted markets. One of the most obvious opportunities is the "Ring of Fire". With the right leadership this project will benefit over 60 local mining companies, creating more business, more jobs and more growth.
To enhance and support local economic development on all fronts, I will establish a business Support & Retention Advisory Committee. This team of local business leaders will identify barriers to our economic prosperity and create solutions.
I will lead the effort to secure these opportunities:
I'll work with all the stakeholders to establish a four season community development that will be strongly anchored by the private sector and supported by the City. From the downtown to the waterfront, I want to see more events and less red tape.
The waterfront and Downtown are a result of the vision and dedication of many people and they must be involved with shaping its future. It is important we engage the DIA, the arts community, Heritage Gardeners, Community Waterfront Friends, Heritage North Bay, and the volunteers of the Train & Carousel.
This community within our community is one of the largest employers in the City. It is critically important that we collectively demonstrate our support to maintain and grow the base. I plan to establish a "Discovery Team" to learn how we can help expand CFB North Bay. This team will work closely with our local Honorary Colonels who have an extensive International network and working relationships with our Canadian Armed Forces. I will work to organize a "North Bay Salutes" committee that will meet monthly to champion the growth and health of the 22 Wing.
A healthy community needs the arts, parks, active living and environmental leadership. As the Deputy Mayor I will make it my responsibility to champion active participation that will benefit us all. Having great roads is important, but open spaces, beaches and a place for our kids to play is what gives a community its heart and soul.
This is not the time to stop investing, it's the time for smart investing - future generations deserve our leadership. As Deputy Mayor I will lead Council through a complete review and reset our Capital Budget Program to ensure our projects align with community priorities. Now, more than ever we must ensure that we address infrastructure challenges - ignoring the problem is not the solution.
Every community is unique and all municipalities deserve equal treatment and funding; the days of "big winners" and "big losers" must end - there can be no more "Postal Code Roulette". I will host quarterly meetings with our MPP & MP. As leaders we are laying the path for our citizen's future, and being adversaries will never accomplish as much as being partners.
