Get Trained Workers started as a pilot project with the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with MCSS, DNSSAB, and four other social service board areas. The Chamber was the successful proponent through the Employment Innovations Fund for this one year pilot project which was then extended for two additional years. The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce had contacts with 16 other Chambers in the north east region, and as such had the business contacts to find meaningful employment for OW and ODSP clients.
The Ministry stated this was a unique partnership as they had never had a Chamber submit a proposal and they were very pleased that our application took a north eastern regional approach. Even after the pilot project was complete, Nipissing had proven successes for the program and as such we continue to work with DNSSAB, their clients and making successful matches to employers.

Building Employment Networks Niagara (BENN) is an asset-based management system that takes stock of Ontario Works clients positive qualities related to potential for training and employment.
The system manages all the regions’ clients, and houses a database of training courses and employment opportunities, suggesting quality matches for both. This dramatically cuts down on the manual searching and matching previously done by staff, while still allowing personnel to ensure the best fit. The system also tracks client progression over time, includes an assessment system that accurately assesses clients’ job readiness based on government objectives and features a variety of user types with different permissions and access levels based on role Eg. Casemanager, Job developer etc.
